Ask Alea: I am bored and unispired with my life, what kind of new hobbies do you recommend?
1. Join an art class, get inspired, and let your creativity out – Groupon.com and Livingsocial.com have great deals for paint nights, but check online and locally for other craft centers, Color-Me-Mine, meetup.com, the learning exchange, or community colleges.
2. Join a bootcamp – have you been meaning to get in shape, but don’t want to go it alone, be in a smelly gym, prefer to be outdoors, or pay hefty gym memberships? Then I suggest looking into a fitness bootcamp to give you the motivation, comradarie, and outdoor experience. Again, Groupon.com and Livingsocial.com usually have good deals for the first few months.
3. Take a self-defense class – I encourage women and men to know the best ways to protect themselves in a dangerous situation. Self-defense classes are ideal for those wanting to be stronger in their mind and their body.
4. Give a speech – join Toastmasters (toastmasters.com to find a local chapter). This is a great way to hone your public speaking and self-image. Public speaking is the number one fear in America. If you can be skillful (or at least look skillful under the panic and anxiety) you will shine amongst others.
